A passenger in a VW Polo was taken to hospital this morning, 1 May after a collision with a police van.
The accident happened at about 5am at the traffic lights at the Helen Joseph Drive and Walter Sisulu Road intersection near the Fireplace Roadhouse.
The police were apparently pursuing criminals at high speed when the accident happened.
According to Capt David Mariri who was on the scene this morning, the police were chasing men who broke into Standard Bank.
“The suspects managed to gain entry to the bank, but fled when the alarm went off. The police responded immediately and chased after the suspects who were speeding towards Evander.”
The suspects got away.
