
Warrant Officer Mandla John Mhlanga (48) from eMbalenhle SAPS appeared in the Evander Magistrate`s Court on 7 May for alleged corruption after he was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigating Unit on Saturday, 5 May.
It is allegedly the officer allegedly phoned the suspect in April 2018, after a theft docket was registered, and informed her about the case.
He then solicited a R4 000 bribe in order to destroy the docket.
An arrangement to pay half the amount was then made, resulting in a sting operation during which the officer was immediately arrested after he received the bribe.
W/O Mhlanga has been released on a warning and he is due back in court on 6 June pending further investigation.
The Provincial Head of Mpumalanga Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation, Major General, Zodwa Mokoena, applauded the team for the swift action.
“I urge all members to stay away from corrupt activities in order to serve and protect the country with integrity and pride.”
