Do not ask strangers for help at an ATM

Several fraud cases were reported where ATM users, mostly aged people, have been conned by strangers offering to help them withdraw or deposit money.

SECUNDA – Do not accept help from strangers when you are using an ATM.

“If you need assistance, rather ask the security personnel who are usually in the vicinity of the ATMs,” said Capt Bettina Zondo from the Secunda Police Station.

Several fraud cases were reported where ATM users, mostly aged people, have been conned by strangers offering to help them withdraw or deposit money.

These strangers often queue near their unsuspecting victims.

“By the time the victims realise that they have been conned, the culprits had already withdrawn money from their accounts.”
