SECUNDA – Many residents were without electricity over the weekend as Govan Mbeki Municipal workers did maintenance on the electrical infrastructure.
The electricity outages began on 3 June and left households in the Brandspruit Street and Helen Joseph Street areas in the dark.
The electricity was supposed to come on again at 6pm, but Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA councillor, sent a message out at 5.30pm and said the power would be on closer to 8pm or even later in some areas because they found more problems while they were doing the maintenance.
According to the schedule, the municipality was going to do work on Ringsub area 5 that affected the Laerskool Goedehoop area on 5 June and Ringsub 2 and 3 that affected the areas around Tuscan Village and the Total Garage on 6 June.
Other areas where maintenance will be done, are Ringsub 4 in the Highveld Park High School area on 7 June, Ringbub 6 in the Palms shopping centre on 13 June, Ringsub 7 in the Tugela Street area on 14 June, Ringsub 8 affecting the area around the mini Pick n Pay and Voortrekker Street on 18 June and Ringsub 9 affecting the area around Sunsetpark on 19 June.
Ringsub 10 in Ext 22 and 23 will also be maintained on 19 June.
