‘One Rand One Can’ donations will benefit the needy

There is still time for businesses to take part. The closing date for businesses is Friday, 13 July.

SECUNDA – Three local schools gave overwhelming support to the Echo/Ridge’s “One Rand One Can” campaign.

We asked schools and businesses to contribute to this cause by challenging their employees or learners to each bring one can of food for human consumption and R1 that will go towards the Highveld Ridge SPCA.

The deadline for the schools was on Friday, 22 June. Highveld Christian College’s 85 learners collected R5 387 for the SPCA as well as a car boot full of canned food.

Laerskool Goedehoop’s food donation filled up the entire back of a double cab bakkie. They will only be able to count and hand over the collected money when the school reopens after the school holiday.

Laerskool Kruinpark’s donation was just as huge. The money they collected came to more than R2 100. Ms Janett Wanesburry, manager of the Echo/Ridge, ruled on merit to award the half page advertisement in the Echo to Highveld Christian College.

“Both Laerskool Goedehoop and Laerskool Kuinpark deserve a quarter page advert. We are truly thankful towards these schools and we are blessed to have you in our community,” said Ms Wanesburry.Dorca’s Kitchen, an organisation that gives food to the needy, also gave abundantly to this campaign by bringing several food parcels and R1 000 to the newspaper’s office.

Most of the money have already been given in at the SPCA. Some of the food have been distributed among Legit Hope and Secunda Angels. The rest will find its way to Rata and other organisations in the next two weeks.

There is still time for businesses to take part. The closing date for businesses is Friday, 13 July. We challenge you to make a difference.
