Selling vehicles in public parking bays is illegal

The municipal spokesman, Mr Mandla Zwane, said that fines will be issued and the vehicles will be towed away at the owners of the vehicles’ own cost.

The Msukaligwa Municipality’s traffic department is experiencing a major problem with a shortage of parking spaces in town due to illegal advertisements of vehicles for sale in public parking bays.

Some shop owners and private people daily park and advertise vehicles for sale in parking areas for the whole day.

Hot spots of such illegal activities are Joubert Street, Church Street and De Clerq Street, the circle in Naude Street where there is a big parking space for the public shopping at Ermelo Mall, among others.

According to the municipal spokesman, Mr Mandla Zwane, this leads to double parkings which put the lives of other road users in jeopardy.

“It is against the law to do the business in parking bays,” Mr Zwane said.

He added that fines will be issued and the vehicles will be towed away at the owners of the vehicles’ own cost.
