The landlines of the Lekwa Call Centre is currently not working and residents are urged to use the emergency number 017 712 5551 to lodge their complaints.
With a multitude of numbers to choose from when punching in the digits for the centre, residents are fed-up to the back teeth once all numbers have been tried in vain.
Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, Lekwa Communications Manager, apologised for the inconvenience and said the matter would be addressed in due course.
“We are experiencing problems with the lines in Sakhile and are in discussions to situate the appointed call centre operator at the fire brigade (017 712 5551) to log the calls and complaints as well as give reference numbers.
“Unfortunately and understandably, staff at the fire brigade are unable to deal with the high call volumes of municipal related issues due to their emergency activities and thus we need to implement a change to accommodate the community.”
The Advertiser also asked about a rumour circulating that no overtime is paid to municipal employees and whether it would be nonsensical to lodge complaints after hours if there is no one to address the complaints.
Ms Mtshiselwa refuted the allegation and said they do get paid: “Emergency personnel as well technicians are on standby 24/7.
“The move of the call operator to the fire brigade is just a temporary solution, because technicians are currently working on the problem.”
