BREAKING NEWS: Risk of load shedding high

Load shedding schedules can be checked on the Eskom website (https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za) or municipal website.

The media desk of Eskom issued a press statement that the risk of load shedding remains high for this evening because of the industrial action at power stations, but it will only be implemented if absolutely necessary.

Eskom and organised labour will meet at the Commission for Conciliation,Mediation and Arbitration today (CCMA) to resolve the impasse.

The police continue to maintain order and enable safe access to power stations.

Peak demand periods are from 5am to 10am and 5pm to 10pm.

Load shedding could be conducted in either stage 1, stage 2, stage 3 or stage 4, dependent on the capacity shortage.

Stage 1 requires 1000MW to be rotationally load-shed nationwide, stage 2 requires 2000MW, stage 3 requires 3000MW and stage 4 calls for up to 4000MW nationally at a given period.

Loadshedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

Eskom encouraged residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly to ease the electricity demand and to switch off geysers during peak periods, as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances.

Load shedding schedules can be checked on the Eskom website (https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za) or municipal website.
