Malindi represents Els’ Dance Studio in Mbombela

She has found a balance in juggling school, dancing and modelling and is currently investing her time and energy in dancing.

eMBALENHLE – Malindi Mthethwa (16) is a Grade 9 learner from Highveld Park High School and is going to the Mpumalanga dance championship in Mbombela (Nelspruit) on 22 September.

Dance studios from the province will compete. The categories will be divided into solo performances and groups, as well as different dance styles. Malindi was born and raised in eMbalenhle.

She attended Oranjegloed Primary School in Secunda where the spark for the stage was lit. She was crowned the first princess at the school’s modelling competition and the second princess in 2015.

Malindi recalled receiving a pamphlet from Amoné Modelling School and then totally forgetting about it. A while later, her mom told her to give them a call in July 2017 and she joined the modelling world.

“Ms Bernadine du Plessis has had a huge influence on my modelling career. She is involved in the whole process, from preparing for the competitions, to hair and make-up and dressing,” said Malindi.

Malindi represented South Africa in Bulgaria in June and was crowned the first princess. “If it had not been Ms Du Plessis and Ms Amanda Kriel, the director of Amoné Modelling School, I would not have gone to the nationals and Bulgaria.”

She has found a balance in juggling school, dancing and modelling and is currently investing her time and energy in dancing. As a level 3 dancer, she has more levels to accomplish in order for her to become a pro dancer.

There is no stopping this bubbly and determined young woman. She is currently a novice plus dancer at Mr Els’ Dance Studio and also dances for her school in the dance sport school league.

Malindi is passionate about pursuing a career in this field and has provincial colours in dancing.

“I am very proud of my daughter and very happy for all that she has achieved,” said Ms Thembi Mthethwa, Malindi’s mom.”Dancing and modelling are expensive, especially the cost of travelling and the clothes.”
