SECUNDA – A man was beaten with sticks by the community and security guards after he stole a suitcase at a clothing store in Secunda Mall.
According to eyewitnesses, the employees saw him walking out of the store with the suitcase and chased him and took the suitcase from him.
He ran into an open field next to the mall and the security guards and community caught him and beat him.
The police also arrived at the scene.
Ms Michelle Nell, manager of Secunda Mall, saw the video and confirmed that it was not the mall’s security guards who beat the man, but the security guards of the store where he tried to steal.
She said they have regular meetings with all the stores in the mall and the security guards to discuss trends and ways of handling things.
“We do not condone this behaviour of beating somebody at all and we will take it up with the store where the security guards are from,” said Ms Nell.
