34-year-old convicted of rape in Secunda

The station Commander Lt Col Maluka welcomed the sentence and thanked the investigating officer for her hard work and dedication in securing the conviction.

SECUNDA – The Secunda Regional court sentenced Lucky Shabangu (34) to 15 years’ imprisonment for rape on Monday, 22 October.

Shabangu was convicted of raping a mentally disabled woman (32) in Lebohang on 10 May 2016.

The victim was on her way to the shop at about 1pm that day when Shabangu, who is known by the victim, called her into his home and raped her.

After the victim was released from the room where the incident took place, she informed someone whom she trusted about the rape.

That person gave her taxi fare to go report the matter to the police at Leandra.

The case was transferred to Secunda Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit for further investigation whereby Constable Palesa. P Monagane was assigned to investigate the matter.

The investigating officer gathered as much evidence as possible to use in the court of law to ensure that the suspect received a heavy sentence.
