SECUNDA – People are urged to be on the lookout for a thief posing as someone who needs help to deliver goods urgently.
A recent report from a shopper who was almost lured to his demise, recalled his incident.
He was on his way to the taxi rank across the road from Secunda Square Mall when he was stopped by a man who asked him for his assistance to carry a box of diapers.
The scam artist said that he needed to deliver the boxes he was carrying to a nearby shop, that he was late and his boss was calling him.
The shopper, in a moment of disbelief, refused because he thought, “What company would send a person to deliver those boxes on foot and without assistance?”
In that moment, he became suspicious, refused to help and walked away.
A day later he heard of an incident that occurred in Evander where a lady became a victim of the same scam and in her case she was unlucky as her handbag and cell phone were taken from her.
