Police concerned about escalation in rape cases in eMzinoni

Suspects now target drunk women

eMZINONI – Police have raised their concerns over the escalation of rape cases in the area.

According to the police, three rape cases were reported in which all the victims were allegedly drunk.

Const Cynthia Mtsweni, police spokesman, said in one of the incidents, the victim was walking home from a tavern during the night when she was met by an unknown man.

He dragged her into a field and raped her.

“We are calling on women to avoid travelling alone during the night as it is unsafe for them.

“We advise them to walk in groups or remain wherever they are, until it is safe to be on the street.”
