Five seriously injured as Polo ends up under truck near New Denmark

Two of the five people in the car were trapped and rescue workers from Govan Mbeki Municipality and Standerton had to use the jaws of life to cut them out.

eMBALENHLE – A VW Polo ended up under a coal truck at the New Denmark turnoff between eMbalenhle and Standerton tonight, 7 December.

It appears that the truck turned in front of the oncomming car.

Two of the five people in the car were trapped and rescue workers from Govan Mbeki Municipality and Standerton had to use the jaws of life to cut them out.

They were seriously injured.

The other three also sustained moderate to serious injuries.

ER24, Netcare 911 and Jeria Ambulance Services transported the patients to hospitals in Secunda and Standerton.
