Learners can still register for Second Chance Programme
Minister encourage learners to take advantage of the Second Chance Programme
HIGHVELD – The Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga, has introduced the Second Chance Matric Support Programme and Read to Lead to local learners and youth on Friday 25 January at the Khotso Tsotetsi Lapa.
Through the Second Chance Programme, the Department of Basic Education invites all candidates who have previously not met the requirements of the National Senior Certificate as well as those currently in matric, to take advantage of the specially designed Second Chance Matric Support Programme.
The Read to Lead Campaign was officially launched in 2015 with the aim to improve the reading habits amongst all South African children.
Ms Motshekga reminded learners considering writing the matric second chance examinations, to register as soon as possible.
“The campaign is geared to ensure that all learners are able to demonstrate age-appropriate levels of reading by 2019.
“It provides teachers and schools with clear directives on the Department’s expectations of achieving the expected levels of performance.
“This programme help learners to be able to meet the requirements of the NSC or SC and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate.
“Learners will be able to access bursary opportunities for further studies.”
Various stakeholders that exhibited their programmes at the road show, included the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), which gave career guidance and Vodacom exhibited the e-School and how to register for free and access the programmes available to learners for free.
