BETHAL – Amos Skhosana (68) was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for stock theft.
The sentencing was recently imposed by the Bethal Regional Court after finding the accused guilty in terms of Section 1, Act 57/1959.
An investigation was conducted by Det/Const Sikhumbuzo Vilanculo regarding 15 bulls worth R135 000 that were stolen at Naudesfontein Farm near Bethal.
During the investigation, police followed the tracks which led them to Skhosana’s place.
Although the bulls were not found at his place, ear-tags which were removed from the bull’s ears, were found.
Further investigation ensued at local auctioneers and police managed to recover the bulls with the assistance of an employee to the complainant.
The bulls were identified to them at a stock auction in eMalahleni.
After Skhosana’s several court appearances, police Det/ Const Vilanculo still managed to secure the sentence through disputes during cross-examination by attorneys.
In terms of Section 103, Act 60/2000, Skhosana was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Lt Col Petrus Nzima, station commander, applauded the members for the great work of securing the conviction.
“The sentencing of Skhosana will serve as a deterrent to others thinking of committing a similar crime.”
