Former Govan Mbeki Municipality employee appear in court on fraud charges
The bail application will continue on October 8.
Police arrested a former employee of Govan Mbeki Municipality and another person connected to a service provider connection with alleged fraud involving of about R2.5m.
The duo appeared before the Evander Magistrate’s Court today (October 6).
According to a media statement from the municipality, the ex employee allegedly colluded with a service provider to inflate prices and submit claims for services which were apparently never rendered at the Evander wastewater treatment plant.
Invoices amounting to R2.5m were submitted to Govan Mbeki Municipality.
The two accused’s bail application was not concluded and they were remanded in custody until October 8.
