SECUNDA – A 42-year-old bank employee will be appearing in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court today in connection with fraud.
According to Capt Bettina Zondo, police spokesman, the woman allegedly transferred and withdrew money from the bank’s clients into her own account.
The estimated amount stolen is R500 000.
The crime was revealed when clients noticed money disappearing from their accounts.
The bank investigated and realised that the suspect allegedly dealt with and authorised the transactions.
The woman fled when she realised the missing money was being investigated. She did not return to work and the police did not find her at her home.
“They traced her to Komatipoort. Secunda detectives then contacted the police at Komatipoort for assistance. She was arrested and brought back to Secunda over the weekend,” said Capt Zondo.
