Take action against human trafficking

Join march in Secunda on 19 October

SECUNDA – The international A21 organisation’s march against human trafficking will take place in Secunda on Saturday, 19 October.

Those who want to show their support and create awareness of human trafficking, can join in the 5km march by registering online or on Saturday, 12 October at Secunda Mall.

Ms Nadia Heyns, organiser of the march in Secunda, said they will be having a stall in front of Ster Kinekor in Secunda Mall from 9am to 5pm.

“It is important that people register before the march,” said Ms Heyns.

The march will kick off at 8.30am.

People will still be able to register on the day of the march (19 October) from 7.30am.

Ms Heyns also needs volunteers to help out on the day of the march.

After the march, people will be able to ask questions about the A21 organisation and human trafficking.

It is the first time that this march will take place in Secunda.

Ms Heyns took the initiative to organise such a march in Secunda after she heard of the A21 organisation for the first time in 2016 and decided to take hands with them.

“I realised there was a need to create awareness of human trafficking, especially in South Africa. Many people are not aware of human trafficking,” said Ms Heyns.

She took part in the A21 march held in Pretoria last year to see how things are done and then decided to bring it to Secunda.

“I had mixed feelings last year when I took part in the march.

“On the one side it makes you feel proud to be part of such a big event, because internationally in other cities people also march on the same day for the same cause.

“On the other side it makes you feel humble, especially when you realise what human trafficking is really about and you have the chance to stand in the gap for people who do not have a voice.”

The A21 march for freedom will take place for the sixth time globally and the third time in South Africa this year.

“The support for the A21 organisation is growing.

In 2017, three cities in South Africa took part in the march, last year, 11 cities took part and this year there are 14 cities involved in the march.”

Ms Heyns’ goal for Secunda is that at least 150 people will take part in the march.
