Local cops scoop accolades at excellence awards

SECUNDA – Const Thomas Mogadime and Sgt Valencia Koma were awarded as the Policeman and Police Woman of the Year respectively within the Secunda Police Cluster.

Const Mogadime is the communication officer at Bethal Police Station and Sgt Koma is the communication officer of Trichardt Police Station.

The local police honoured their best performers at the cluster’s annual Excellence Awards held at the Sasol Club in Secunda on Friday, 11 October.

The trophy recipients were Capt JJ Steyn from Bethal as Manager of the Year, Capt AC Steyn from Bethal as Admin Employee of the Year, Lieut Col MP Matlala as Vispol Employee of the Year, Capt Simon Mlotshwa as Detective of the Year and Col Maria Sibanyoni as the Senior Manager of the Year.

Sgt Hezekiel Malapela received the accolade for the FCS Employee of the Year, Const Danie Strydom was the Crime Intelligence Employee of the Year, Sgt TP Morifi won the prize for Detective Employee of the Year, Capt Heintjie Alberts won the category for Vispol Employee of the Year Level 8 to 12, and Const Cynthia Mtsweni won the category of Vispol Employee of the Year Level 5 to 7.

Const FF Dlamini and his cluster team won the award for the Vispol Team of the Year, followed by Col Nancy Ntuli and the K9 Unit, and Const SF Mabasa from eMzinoni.

Capt Simon Mlotshwa’s detective team was honoured as the Detective Team of the Year, followed by Col DE Mbokane’s team and Const MS Raphahlelo.

Capt Liz Koekemoer and her team was awarded the trophy as the FCS Team of the Year.

The police also honoured civilians at this event.

Ms EM Mahlangu, a cleaner, was awarded the Certificate for Admin Employee of the Year Level 1-4.

The award for Admin Employee of the Year level 5-7 was given to Ms LN Ngubeni and Ms Kotie Moll was the Admin Employee of the Year for Level 8 – 12.

R/Const JM Mtshweni was awarded the accolade for Reservist of the Year.

eMzinoni CPF won the trophy as the CPF of the Year.

Ms Thandi Ngxonono, executive mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, in her address, applauded the police for their good work.

She asked them to deal stricter with drugs and gender-based violence.
