Angel Foundation will carry on with their programmes

The situation as regard boys came to the forefront at an event at Stanwest Hall as part of the foundation’s strong stance on gender-based violence.

The DA member of parliament, Ms Angel Khanyile, established a foundation in April this year to reach young girls in Standerton with a message of hope.

“As a society, we are preparing young girls to have relationships with socially unprepared young men,” Ms Khanyile said.

The Angel Foundation was active in handing sanitary towels to girls at Madi Combined School, as well as Khula-Sakhile Secondary School and held an event in September to culminate with Women’s Month.

Issues relating to women were addressed and school shoes donated to children from impoverished families.

Ms Khanyile and Ms Sithi Silosini also recently conducted an oversight visit to the police stations in Sakhile and town.

The reason for the visit was to ascertain whether they have rape kits for minors and adults, as well as the necessary resources to fight gender-based violence.”They have a victim empowerment centre, without staff support,” Ms Khanyile then said.

She added that both stations have rape kits, but no buccal swabs (to collect DNA from the inside of a person’s cheek), which delays most investigations

Motivational talks to Grade 9 learners were also done.

“We need to concentrate on girls and boys separately and then have them join a conversation to speak about issues that were identified.”

Ms Khanyile concluded by encouraging the community to contact Mr Siyabonga Mhlanga at 081 864 0746 with their problems.
