EVANDER – A 12-year-old boy drowned at an excavation site near Adullam Mission Station this afternoon, 15 December.
The site looks like a quarry of sorts and some parts are filled up with water from the recent rain.
According to Mr Andries Lee from Delta 1 Rescue Diving, the boy and five friends were swimming in the water when he drowned at about 3pm. The children had walked all the way from Ext 16 to cool off in the water.
The rescue team was dispatched at about 5pm.
The boy’s distraught parents and two friends were on the scene when Mr Lee and Sgt Jaco Nagel recovered the body.
