Sakhile Police recently issued a press release about the sentencing of life imprisonment on rape and assault charges.
Secunda Regional Court meted out life imprisonment (direct imprisonment) for housebreaking with the intent to rape and rape and one year imprisonment on assault charges to Sifiso Goodhope Mthunzi (29) after an incident on 24 September at about 1.15am.
A 14-year-old girl was sleeping in her bedroom with her siblings, and was awakened when the culprit began strangling her.
She screamed and he demanded that her panties be taken off.
After her refusal, she was undressed and the sexual act followed, while her siblings pretended to be asleep.
When he was done, he threatened the victim that he would kill her if she told anyone. He fled the scene.
The victim alleged that the culprit once met her and asked whether she still was a virgin.
She and her siblings positively identified Mthunzi and a DNA-test was performed, linking him to the charges.
Mtunzi allegedly said: ‘Ngishilo ngathi ngizokuthola’, translated as ‘I told you I will get you’, during the attack.
Police applauded the work of Det-Sgt Sithole of Standerton’s unit for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses.
