Vocational skills development classes now open at Marietjie School

The new vocational skills development classes will teach pupils to be self efficient when leaving school

SECUNDA – Marietjie School had a ribbon cutting for their new vocational skills development facilities that opened on Wednesday, 6 February.

The project began in 2018 to accommodate classes for vocational skills development.

These skills development subjects offer agricultural studies, consumer studies such as food production and sewing production, mathematics, English home language, welding, woodwork and timber.

“The learners will be given projects on which they will be assessed. The first project they will be able to take home, whereas the second project will be sold at Marietjie School’s annual spring market in September.”

“All the subjects are practical, hands on subject. This is to teach the learners when they leave the safe boundaries of our school to be self-efficient one day at home,” said Ms Annaretha Fourie, deputy principal.

Ms Mariane Uekermann, principal, said: “The learners and teachers are very excited about the new vocational skills development facilities and what it has to offer.”

She said the new facilities would not have been possible without the generosity and cooperation from businesses. She thanked CK Klein Projects, Volschenk Plumbing,

Signature Woodworks, Xiner-Tech, FenG Construction and Morné Vermaak Construction for their time and resources in making this project possible.

Learners are excited for the new classes that were officially opened.
