Secunda band has a brotherly bond

SECUNDA – In a band where every member gives it their all and contributes equally toward their ultimate goal, this group of friends is an example of what a brotherly bond should be, standing by and supporting each other through thick and thin.
Pilgrim South is a local band that had their official start in August 2019.
The band consists of five friends namely, Ras (vocalist), Brendon Fick (drummer), Jacques Koen (lead guitarist), Wihan Franzsen (bass guitarist) and Frikkie Swanepoel (acoustic guitarist).
All of their released songs are available on all social media and music platforms, for example Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Facebook and many more.
When it comes to writing the songs, the whole band contributes, for instance Ras would write the lyrics, while everyone writes the music.
The main genre for their music is Southern Rock with a blues influence.
“The overall theme for our music is the journey of life, all of our songs have a message of light in the darkness and regardless of the style of music, there is always a positive message in each song” said Ras.
All the songs are on some level connected to one another, not necessarily when you put them in order according to when they were written, but if you look at the message given by each song, they all form a bigger story.
The band held their Extended Play record (EP) launch at Stoepstories in Trichardt on 28 February, releasing their first album later this year. They are an independent band that does their own marketing.
As they continue writing more songs, they focus more on quality than quantity.
“We don’t want to complete a lot of songs in a short time and have them being of poor quality” said Ras.
All the band members love the type of music they write, pouring more and more passion into each song.
“As we grow as a band, so too does our music. The more songs we write, the more refined they get, which in turn makes us able to refine and make the older songs we have written better and of higher quality” stated Jacques.
This band immerge themselves into their music, getting as much out of their experiences with the time they have, for no one knows what the future holds.
