Gert Sibande District Municipality gives back on Mandela Day

The visits and donations, formed part of the Nelson Mandela International Day (or Mandela Day), which is an annual international day in honour of the late Nelson Mandela.

In light of Mandela Day on 18 July, Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) made donations to Buhlebuyeza Primary School in Amsterdam on 16 July.

GSDM’s speaker, Councillor Joshua Nkosi, visited the school and handed over uniforms, sanitary towels and face masks.

Through the use of face masks, these donations help fight the the spread of Covid-19, the donation of sanitary towels ensures girls do not have to stay away from school and the inclusion of school uniforms assist those who might not be able to afford it.

Speaking on behalf of the district executive mayor, councillor Bheki Buthelezi, urged all members of the communities and school children to familiarise themselves with the updated lockdown regulations and adhere to them.

Councillor Buthelezi made the call during his visit to various schools in the district where GSDM donated complete school uniforms and sanitary towels to needy pupils on Wednesday, 15 July.
