Evander High learners excel at national spelling bee

Sibulele Grace Baatjie claimed second place for grades 10 to 12 learners, while Refiloe Choma secured third place for grades seven to nine learners.

Four learners from Evander High School represented their school at the Master Spelling Bee National Competition in Umhlanga, Durban, on September 26.

Sibulele Grace Baatjie, Ntokozo Mahlangu, Bokang Ditshego and Refiloe Choma competed against learners from schools across the provinces and performed exceptionally well.

The learners faced challenging words during the competition, including some that were not on the required word list, but continued progressing through the different levels.

Their performance was a proud achievement for Evander High School, with two of the learners securing places in their respective categories.

Baatjie claimed second place in the Melittidae category for grades 10 to 12 learners, while Choma secured third place in the Honey Bees category for grades seven to nine learners.

The school congratulated all four learners on their achievement and commended them for their dedication, hard work and perseverance.
