
After police arrested a Sakhile-police officer on Monday 10 August in connection with the alleged rape of a 18-year-old, the suspect appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 11 August.
Brig Leonard Hlathi issued a statement about the incident, which was published on the website of the Standerton Advertiser.
According to information, two men lured the victim to the suspect’s house where the incident allegedly took place.
A case of rape, as well as assault, was opened at the police station.
Lieut-Gen Mondli Zuma, provincial commissioner of police, strongly condemned the alleged rape and expressed his disappointment with a crime of such a nature happening in Women’s Month.
The communications officer of the Standerton Police, W/O Nkosinati Khanyile, said on Thursday, 13 August that the case was postponed to 19 August for a formal bail application.
A police investigation is underway.
