UPDATE – Two people who died in accident on Amsterdam Road were officials from the Gert Sibande Education District

Msukaligwa Fire & Rescue Services were on the scene and had to make use of the jaws of life to free the person’s body from the wreckage.

The two people who died in an accident outside Ermelo on the Amsterdam Road on 27 August were officials from the Gert Sibande Education District, Mr Thulani Majozi (54) and Mr Thokozani Manana (27).

Mr Majozi was the Amsterdam circuit driver and Mr Manana was recently appointed to render fumigation services.

The Highvelder can now confirm after speaking to emergency personnel, that two people have died in the accident yesterday, 27 August outside Ermelo about 5km on the Amsterdam Road.

UPDATE: 28 August – 7am

Recent information obtained indicates that there exists a possibility that another person might have also been in the vehicle during the accident, but this has not been confirmed as yet.

Due to the nature of the wreckage, it was unclear at the time whether there was anyone else travelling with the driver of the vehicle, but confirmation will be sought from the relative authorities.

The Highvelder cannot yet disclose the name(s) of the deceased as it is not clear whether the next of kin have been informed.

An update will follow shortly.


27 August – 9.29pm

One person dies after crashing into a tree outside Ermelo on Amsterdam Road

The driver of an Isuzu bakkie died in an accident on the Amsterdam Road about 5km outside Ermelo earlier today, 27 August.

From what is understood, one person died after losing control over the bakkie he was driving in, leaving the road and crashing into a tree.

Several containers labelled ‘All-purpose disinfectant’ were scattered across the accident scene.

Local police, emergency services and Ermelo Towing also attended the scene. As soon as more information is obtained, readers will be updated.
