Suspects arrested on N17 for possession of dagga

Police found a bag belonging to a 29-year-old woman, with two portions of compressed dagga. 

TRICHARDT – While busy with their daily highway patrol on the N17 between Bethal and Trichardt on Wednesday, 19 August at around 10:40am, members of the Secunda Flying Squad spotted a suspicious vehicle travelling from Bethal.

The police pulled the vehicle over and searched the luggage of the occupants.

Police found a bag belonging to a 29-year-old woman, with two portions of compressed dagga.

Upon further investigation, a 26-year-old man was also found to be in possession of two portions of compressed dagga.

The woman and the man both confessed to the police that they were travelling from Swaziland to Springs to deliver the goods.

Both suspects who are Swazi nationals, are also said to be related.

The suspects were charged for possession of dagga and appeared in the Secunda Court on Thursday, 20 August.

The estimated street value of the dagga is said to be R18 000.
