BETHAL – A man and a woman were attacked on their small holding by three armed men on Wednesday evening, 2 September.

A shootout ensued where one of the three armed men shot at the man, resulting to a gunshot wound to the chest.

The robbers then fled the scene. Bethal CPF as well as Bethal Rural Safety, farmers and police reacted hastily to the scene.

Langamed South Services transported the man to Mediclinic Highveld in Trichardt.

Once stabilised the man was transported to a hospital in Alberton.

According to Mr Hennie Bekker, deputy chairman of Bethal Rural Safety, less than an hour later, three armed men attempted another armed robbery where they had stolen a cell phone and a silver VW Polo in the Bethal Rand vicinity.

The VW Polo was recovered at 2am on Thursday, 3 September by the Middelburg Flying Squad in Ogies.

The three armed men are still at large.
