The suspect was found in possession of traffic fines, date stamps as well as reduction affidavits.

A 28-year-old security guard appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 2 September in connection with several charges.

Mr Lucky Vala is charged with fraud, theft as well as impersonating a senior prosecutor.

The suspect was arrested in Standerton during a police operation on 1 September.

According to information received, Mr Vala, stationed at the court, allegedly solicited bribes under false pretences from unsuspecting members of the public to reduce their traffic fines.

He allegedly lured them into believing he is a senior prosecutor, took their money, then went to a private office to reduce the fines illegally.

His cover was blown when several complaints were made from people who had not received their receipts as proof of payment.

The matter was then reported to the police, who in turn instituted an operation.

The suspect was found in possession of traffic fines, date stamps as well as reduction affidavits.

He was remanded in custody and appeared at the same court on Thursday, 3 September for a formal bail application.

The criminal office at the court said on Friday, 4 September that bail was set at R500 and the the next court appearance is 14 October, for further investigation.
