Authorities in Ermelo put a stop to alleged spare tyre thieves’ wheelings and dealings

“The more cases are opened the better the chances are for prosecution,” he said.

Suspects were arrested after allegedly stealing spare tyres in Ermelo on 10 September.

Mr Theo Craven, control room operator at ACSU and district manager of the South African Community Crime Watch in Gert Sibande (SACCW) urged community members who had spare tyres stolen to open cases at the Ermelo Police Station.

“The more cases are opened the better the chances are for prosecution,” he said.

Mr Craven said: “We listed a look-out for two suspicious vehicles involved in potential theft of spare tyres in the week of 30 August to 5 September.

“Afterwards we received a call about two vehicles matching the description at the Msukaligwa Municipality’s premises.”

The suspects allegedly stole a spare wheel and were chased by a victim.

They were successfully apprehended by police officials, fidelity and ACSU provided back-up after they were notified by the municipality who is their client.
