Bongani Mdaki donates 100 books in commemoration of the National Book Week
LEBOHANG – Libraries are always in need of more books, which is why Mr Bongani Mdaki has helped Lebohang Library to stock up some shelves.
He recently donated about 100 books to the local library in commemoration of the National Book Week.
This avid reader’s passion and love for literature and arts began when he was still a kid.
He would go to the local library to borrow some books to read during school holidays.
Mr Mdaki recalls September 1997 when he was on his way to return a library book, he found his friends playing soccer near the library.
He decided to join them and hid the book. To his dismay, when he returned to retrieve the book after his match, it was gone.
“I was hurt and disappointed that the book was missing.
“I decided to never again go to the library.
“This is a debt I have never forgotten. Now I have decided to pay my debt with interest.”
Mr Mdaki has been collecting the books for several years and is glad that his dream has come true.
He encouraged locals to develop the culture of reading and he believes that it can transform the nation.
