Collision between bakkie and bus claims two lives in Wakkerstroom

A collision between a bakkie and scholar transport bus claimed the lives of two and left seven learners critically injured on 28 September in Wakkerstroom.

According to Mr Cyril Dlamini, spokesman of the Department of Public works, Roads and Transport, “It is alleged that the bus that was ferrying the learners was hit by the bakkie which failed to stop at a stop sign.”

He added, both of the occupants of the bakkie, driver and passenger, died.

The injured learners were transferred to Volkrust Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Mr Dlamini said, the police and traffic authorities are still investigating the circumstances which led to the accident.

Mr Gillion Mashego, MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured learners a speedy recovery.

He urged all road users to adhere to the rules of the road to avoid such tragic incidents.
