Well respected firefighter in Ermelo dies

Ms Masentle Soko (30), daughter of Mr Soko, said: “My father’s dream was to mentor young fire fighters.

Mr Thembinkosi Lucky Soko died from a short-term illness in Ermelo on 16 September. 

According to Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman of Msukaligwa Municipality, Mr Soko began his journey as a learner fire fighter in Ermelo on 17 December 1997. 

Mr Zwane said: “In his 23 years of service, he held various positions as he progressed through the ranks. 

“In his last 10 years he held the rank of Platoon Commander until his death.”

Ms Masentle Soko (30), daughter of Mr Soko, said: “My father’s dream was to mentor young fire fighters.

She said her father loved soccer and his favourite soccer team was the Moroka Swallows. 

“He always dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player one day.”
