According to Cosatu’s schedule, protesters will proceed to the Transnet offices, Government buildings, Batho Pele offices and end at the Chamber of Business’ offices.

The Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) embarked on a national strike today, 7 October.

There motivations for the strike are, among other issues, the ongoing wage disputes, unemployment/retrenchments, disrespect of collective agreements, gender based violence as well as health and safety issues.

Roads to and from Ermelo have been temporarily closed off by trucks.

A large gathering of protesters aired their frustrations at the Msukaligwa Local Municipality this morning at about 8.30am.

Mr Solomon Mahlangu, Provincial Secretary of Satawu, said they will be at the municipality for about an hour from where they will move on to the next location.

According to Cosatu’s schedule, protesters will proceed to the Transnet offices, Government buildings, Batho Pele offices and end at the Chamber of Business’ offices.

A 7-page memorandum will be handed over to the relevant officials at the respective offices.

Police are currently at the municipality monitoring proceedings.

This is a developing story, more information along with photos and the content of the memorandum will follow shortly.
