Vegtable garden for Bethal’s community is taking shape

BETHAL – A portion of land consisting of 1 000 meter square, has been cleared out and is in the developing phase to vegetables.
The project began during the lockdown when resident, Ms Marilé Nieuwoudt of AfriForum and Bethal CPF, began clearing a portion of her land to be developed into a vegetable garden to help feed families in need.
“The idea is to turn a community who needs food into people who can help take care of the plantation, reap the rewards, and at the same time learn how to cook with certain vegetables in variety of ways.
“We want to begin a community of receiving and then giving back, and also to teach a community to teach or help a neighbour on how to make the most of a little,” said Ms Nieuwoudt.
She said everything is going as planned and they are now in the process of covering the plot with net. However they are needing compost, manure and soil which would be ideal for planting.
An expert in dripping irrigation is also needed and it would be ideal if the expert can help plan the irrigation.
Ms Nieuwoudt said they also need an old JoJo tank and big buckets which will be used for planting.
