Secunda residents had enough of poor services
One could understand frustrations as paid for services are not being rendered, however local businessman and resident Mr Imraan Salajee and his team have been working tirelessly, and at own expenses, to maintain and clean the CBD.
SECUNDA – Residents have once again shown their anger and frustration towards Govan Mbeki Municipality’s lack of service delivery.
They dumped their refuse bags in front and over the palisades at the local library next to the GMM building on Tuesday night, 27 October.
They were angry because refuse had not been collected in weeks.
“They come speeding down our road, but don’t bother to collect our refuse bags,” said an angry resident.
He said it was the third week that his garbage had not been collected.
Local businessman and resident, Mr Imraan Salajee and his team have been working tirelessly, and at own expenses, to maintain and clean up the CBD.
“I understand the frustration of residents. The municipality charges for services but does not deliver. However, this has created a backlog in the municipality, they are running on limited resources and limited funding,” said Mr Salajee.
He said the amount of effort and manpower that went into the littering of refuse could have been used to take their refuse straight to the local dumping site instead of dumping it where they did.
“You say you want a cleaner environment and a cleaner Secunda, but then the exact opposite is being done. I respect the people that were involved point of view, but the route that was taken was wrong. It makes everyone’s life more difficult because now there is just going to be another backlog in refuse removal.
“Be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” said Mr Salajee.
GMM’s communication department did not respond at the time of going to press.
