A contractor of RDP-houses in Ext 8, Mr Brian Owen, shed some light on the quality of infrastructure in the township on Thursday, July 22.
The Standerton Advertiser published an article in its edition of July 23, where a resident was quoted as saying the contractor refused to help.
The fear was that the RDP-houses will crack and foundations will be damaged because of water flooding into yards.
Mr Owen refuted the statement of not wanting to help and said he completed 500 units for the 2016-project.
He was appointed to build another 500 units of which 229 are completed.
“The original contractor, Vikinduku, was in charge of bulk services and water connections in Ext 8,” Mr Owen also said.
“They are now nowhere to be found and the Vikinduku-units were not handed over.”
According to Mr Owen, he will be held accountable if taking over work done by another contractor.
He also provided photos of his workmanship.
The newspaper contacted the communications department of the Lekwa Municipality already on July 15, and is awaiting comment.
