Govan Mbeki Housing Company is under forensic investigation

GMHC is generating money out of municipality property while the municipality is getting nothing.

Govan Mbeki Housing Company is under forensic investigation and the Govan Mbeki Municipality is awaiting the results.

This was revealed by the executive mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, during the council meeting held on Thursday, January 6.

Cllr Thabiso Mofokeng from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) asked the mayor if there was an agreement between the municipality and GMHC to manage municipal properties such as the Tsalanang community residential units and the eMzinoni community residential units because the municipality does not get money from those properties.

“GMHC is generating money out of municipal property while the municipality is getting nothing.

“Those assets should bring revenue to the municipality and not to the GMHC. This must come to an end because now we want and deserve to know who signed the agreement,” said Cllr Mofokeng.

When responding, Mr Zuma said the company that was appointed to investigate GMHC has completed its work.

He also said they will prepare it for the next council sitting.

GMHC is managing all rental stock or CRUs around the municipal area.
