The memorial service of the legal manager of the Lekwa Municipality, Mr Vincent Nenzhelele, took place at the Standerton Town Hall on Tuesday, January 18.
A live video on Facebook made the proceedings available to the community.
Mr Nenzhelele passed away in a car accident between Greylingstad and Standerton on January 14, in which four other people died and nine injured.
The accident happened while it was raining and firefighters from Lekwa, traffic officers, police and paramedics were on the scene, till hospital staff treated the injured.
In his tribute, Mr Sipho Mkhwanazi, labour relations manager from the municipality, commented on Mr Nenzhele’s characteristics such as independent thinking, professionalism and the fact that he valued others’ opinions.
One speaker afterwards mentioned his non-conformity, leadership qualities and honesty.
His wife, Ms Alice Mukondeleli Nemutshili-Nenzhelele, also gave a tribute.
Mr Louis Delani Thabethi, executive mayor, said Mr Nenzhelele was a gentleman and role model for many.
“He loved his work and gave it his all,” the mayor added.
Mr Thabethi also said that Lekwa should put their people, as well as service delivery, first.
A funeral was held in Limpopo on Saturday, January 21.
