Council in Standerton establishes committees

Political oversight is regulated according to Section 79 and 80 of the Municipal Structures Act.

The council of the Lekwa Municipality recently had a meeting and the following committees will oversee activities.

Political oversight is regulated according to Section 79 and 80 of the Municipal Structures Act, whereby a municipal council may establish one or more committees necessary for effective and efficient performance of its functions or alternatively for the exercise of any of its powers.

Ms Sithi Silosini was elected as chairman of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), while Mr Alberto Franco was elected to serve in the Budget and Treasury Office (BTO).

Ms Wilma Venter was elected as chairman of Technical Services, Mr Corné Stoltz as chairman of Bylaws and Ethics and Ms Nwabisa Thakudi as chairman of Rules and Ethics.

According to Ms Venter, at least four councillors have to serve on a committee.

She also said the meeting was conducted in an orderly fashion.

The executive mayor, Mr Louis Delani Thabethe, will chair finance, while technical services according to Section 80, will be represented by Mr Sipho Majozi.

Ms Seipati Modise is a member of the mayoral committee on community services and safety, Ms Phindile Mahlaba on corporate services and Mr Thabo Sebiloane on planning and economic development.
