The DA has submitted a motion for the municipality’s bid for an adjudication committee to be open for the public and the exclusion of politicians from the bid adjudication processes.
According to the DA, the municipality is practically insolvent due to crippling debts, poor financial management and misappropriation of funds, as was found in several investigations that were conducted within the municipality.
“As part of ongoing efforts to encourage accountability and transparency and to ensure thorough oversight, we have submitted the motion.”
“The motion seeks amongst other things, the exclusion of politicians from the tender bid adjudication processes, allow the public to observe committee meetings, publish reports and recommendations of the adjudication committee because transparency is the heart of good governance.
“As the DA, we maintain that the acceptance of such motion in the municipal council is an effective measure to avoid nepotism and irregular tender allocations,” said DA Cllr Ciska Jordaan.
The DA will continue to search for measures that will encourage public scrutiny and oversight into the affairs of the municipality, to ensure that money meant for people, is spent on them.
The motion was submitted on Thursday, January 10, to the office of the acting municipal manager.
