Police rescue abandoned children in Refilwe

The mother allegedly left the children unattended for the night on March 6.

Four minors between the ages of eight years and 10 months old were found locked inside a house without any adult supervision.

The Cullinan Police sector managers and as well as members of the Crime Prevention Unit acted swiftly following a complaint by members of the community.

The four children were locked inside a house at Refilwe within the Cullinan policing area.

The mother allegedly left the children unattended for the night on March 6.

According to a media statement released by Sgt Connie Moganedi, media spokesperson for the Cullinan Police, a case of child neglect is underway.

The children are now in the care of a social worker and the case is being investigated.

The acting station commander, Capt Christiaan Gertzen, applauded the members involved in the rescue operation.

“I applaud them for their swift response, prioritising child safety, and further appreciate their heroic action of practising proactive policing,” Capt Gertzen said.

Capt Gertzen further urged parents to never leave children unattended, to know where their children are and to ensure good supervision at all times.
