Long-time Secunda resident Robert Boast (72) died in February

Robert was born on June 4, 1949, in Dyffryn Cymmer Wales.

Family and friends were saddened to hear of the death of a long-time Secunda resident, Robert Boast (72).

He died peacefully at home on February 17, while in the care of his daughter, Adel Boast-Miller, and the assistance of Caressa caregiver, Sibongile Mabasa.

Boast was born on June 4, 1949, in Dyffryn Cymmer Wales.

He worked for Duffryn Rhondda Colliery from 1964 to 1969 before moving to Zambia. He worked for the Zambia Mines from 1973 till 1977.

Boast married his wife Ann in 1971 and the couple had three children.

He moved the family to South Africa in 1980 and worked for Sasol Coal at the mines Brandspruit, Twistdraai and Middelbult.

While Boast was still working for the mines, Ann, who was also a well-known hair salon owner in her time, died on August 13, 2007, from cancer.

Boast retired from the mining industry in 2015.

He leaves behind sons Geriant and Ryan, daughter Adele, granddaughter Robyn and grandsons Rhys and Dyllan.

A memorial service was held for Boast at the Kruik Gemeente in Secunda on February 28.
