Sibanyoni retains his SANTACO chairmanship

“To be re-elected doesn’t mean that I must relax. I must work harder for the members and that’s a huge responsibility.”

Fanyana Sibanyoni was re-elected as the chairperson of the Mpumalanga South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) for the third time.

Sibanyoni, who is also the chairman of the Vukanini Taxi Association was elected unopposed at the provincial conference in Mbombela in the beginning of February.

All Mpumalanga taxi associations who are Santaco affiliates sent their delegates to the conference.

“To be re-elected doesn’t mean that I must relax. I must work harder for the members and that’s a huge responsibility.

“Another thing is to clean the Vukanini Taxi Association by removing all of those who are doing dirty things within the association.

“We can’t have people who want to kill others. As we speak, some children are without their parents and starving because their fathers were killed.

“Very soon, all those members will be out of the association,” said Sibanyoni.

Fannie Khumalo (51) was gunned down at his home in Thistle Grove last year.

According to police, Khumalo was preparing his minibuses to transport commuters, when four armed men shot him seven times in the chest.

Three suspects, including the one that turned state witness, were arrested in December, while two other taxi drivers allegedly involved in the murder committed suicide at different places.

It’s alleged that the first one shot himself in December, while another one allegedly shot himself before the police could arrest him in Villiers last month.

The accused Elias Mhlanga (52) was denied bail by the Evander Magistrate’s Court, while Vuyisile Buthelezi refused to apply for bail.
