Water levels at Grootdraai Dam slightly increase
Even though there has been a drop in water volumes, the situation is much better than the same period last year.
Mpumalanga water levels slightly dropped.
According to the department of water and sanitation’s state of reservoirs report, dated March 14, the average water in storage in the listed dams in Mpumalanga dropped from 93,2% to 92,9%.
Water in the catchment management areas also dropped, with the Olifants water management area (WMA) dropping from 81,8% to 81,5%, while the Inkomati-Usuthu WMA dropped from 98,8% to 98,1%.
Even though there has been a drop in water volumes, the situation is much better than the same period last year.
Vygeboom Dam is the only dam that remained unchanged in water volumes at 100,6%.
Grootdraai Dam increased from 101,4% to 102.3% and Morgenstond from 99,5% to 100,0%.
On the decline mode in Gert Sibande District, Nooitgedacht Dam dropped from 95,3% to 92.9%, Jericho from 100,2% to 90,7%, Westoe from 99,6% to 99,4% and Heyshope from 100,7% to 100,3%.
The department reminded the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country and called on all residents to use water wisely and sparingly, especially as water levels drop.
