Lekwa pays last respects for councillor Nhlapho
The councillor died in a car crash on the Secunda Road on March 7.
The memorial service of Councillor Smanga Lawrence Nhlapho took place at the Standerton Town Hall on Wednesday, March 23.
Supporters of the Lekwa Community Forum (LCF) were singing and dancing outside the hall at 13:45.
The councillor died in a car crash on the Secunda Road on March 7 when his car collided with another vehicle.
The car overturned, caught fire and his colleague, Veli Mahlangu, who was in the car, also died.
Both men were trapped in the burning car.
Morgenzon Fire Brigade extinguished the fire.
Louis Delani Thabethe, executive mayor, offered his condolences to the Nhlapho family, his friends and colleagues.
“He was going to play a pivotal role in improving the lives of the people of Lekwa,’ the mayor said.
Gert Sibande District Municipality likewise sent condolences to the family, his Lekwa Municipality family and the Lekwa community at large.
“The local government sector has lost a colleague and a leader, who was passionate about service delivery and making people’s lives better,” their statement read.
