Adults learn to swim at Aqua Antics in Secunda

Morongwa Ramela said the class helped to build her confidence and she learned how to keep herself and her family safe around water.

A group of adults who could not swim recently embarked on an eight-week course to become water savvy and also learnt how to save others from drowning.

They began their journey with Theresa Gray at Aqua Antics on Monday, January 17 with a 30-minute class once a week with homework to be done each week, usually outside of water.

The group began with 10 swimmers and ended with eight getting their certificates.

“What a tremendously enthusiastic group of adults, they all spurred each other on. Many are parents of children we are teaching to swim,” said Gray.

Happy and Sindi Nkabini were excited to receive their certificates.

“I wanted to better my swimming. I highly recommend this to anyone who cannot swim,” said Happy.

Neo Dubazana wanted to learn a new skill and she is thrilled that she is no longer afraid of water.

“I will definitely go on with the lessons,” she said.

Morongwa Ramela said the class helped to build her confidence and she learned how to keep herself and her family safe around water.

Gray said the next beginner group begins in April with a nine-week course that encompasses all the core aquatic skills and they are able to do the first basic freestyle.

The current group will move on to an intermediate class run by Frank van Papendorp.

Bookings for these specific adult classes are essential.
